"Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart" ~ Psalm 37:4
This verse confuses and hurts me.

I can understand why, Jordin, and I pray often that God would somehow grant you what you desire.

Well, Aphra, i feel that this verse is a little misused, especially in our society. I really could go on and on, but an example of the 'desires of our heart': a mother in Africa who prays desperately for God to save her child from death because they have no food and the child is starving. And i realized that if you delight yourself in God, then your hearts desires is for God's will.

Then there is the interpretation that God will give you the desires in your heart, not as a gift, but He will put the desires there. But again with this, what about man who has prayed and prayed and feels guided that he ought to be a missionary to Thailand, only to find out that he has a condition and he cant leave the Canada because his immune system cant support him any longer.

Even if God gives us the desire, i dont believe that He will always give us the gift. Sometimes our broken world comes into play with our bodies, or minds... or whatever, and because of our own flaws, we are unable to receive the gift entirely...

Rachel, thank you. Eventhough i know that you are praying for me, having you say it every so often brings me to tears at your love and devotion to our friendship and to our Father.
